How to Get Started with Real Estate

Hi! I’m Gina Sahota. If someone told you that you could be your own boss, build your own empire, and have the lifestyle flexibility that you’ve always desired, wouldn’t you want to do it?

For the past decade I have been investing in real estate. My experiences include building new homes, buy & holds and multifamily. My reason for getting into real estate was that I was looking for financial freedom. So I could spend time with my family, give back and travel the world.

My educational background is in Marketing Management. During university I worked 2 jobs, one of the jobs turned out to be a 12 year gig. I started off as a bank teller at a large bank in Canada and worked my way up to management and then to head office. I learned a lot about different business, saving money, financial planning, how to structure deals. I was also able to set aside money for a down payment.

Throughout this time I was blessed to meet so many clients, and I really got to know them and their life stories. At one point it really hit me, the majority of these individuals were not prepared for their financial future, they were just letting time pass them by and hoping everything would work out in the end. From conversations with many of my senior clients, they said that they wish they had another source of income because the government pension plan was not enough to survive. All these stories resonated with me and I really took a moment to reflect on my life and decided it was time to take action.

After years of many different experiences (personal and professional), coaching and training staff, I realized that real estate investing was for me. An opportunity came up to work for a developer in the heart of beautiful Vancouver, British Columbia. This role helped me broaden my knowledge. The daily contact with our construction trades, homeowners, property management, development, sales and marketing teams have been such a valuable experience and I have definitely learned a lot on the job; that I would not of learned in the classroom or anywhere else. Along the way I had many mentors and coaches who shared their learnings with me, and I was quick to take action!

My hope is that you will be able to take action on something that you learn here and create your own path to success, because we all know there are unlimited ways you can get there.
